Kemi,
To say that I'm shocked that you're no longer with us, will be a gross understatement. it all seems so surreal, like a bad dream to me; Except of course no one has woken me up...so part of me is starting to accept that this just might be reality.
Memories, memories, memories! With you Kemi I have loads of them. Since meeting you in 2004, we've experienced many ups and downs, but still remained friends, good friends.
My favorite thing about you was your hearty, throaty and infectious laughter. Haa! Kemi, you could laugh for Africa, lol! You were always so quick to laugh-almost more than anyone I know- and even when you were upset, any one who knew you well knew, that all they needed to do was get you to laugh. You were one the few people I knew who would laugh even while being terribly upset at anyone. Your forgiving heart, Kemi is one I can never forget, and thinking about it now, your ability to forgive a person completely, without having restrictions afterwards humbles me. Oh Kemi, you were such a great person.
I remember all the times we went out and had dance face-offs. You were such a great dancer, naturally so. You loved to dance as much as I did, and the last two times I saw you, in July and September(21) 2012, we still had cause to dance. You were my friend and dance partner, with you around on any social occasion, I was always inspired and free to let go, because you were always there to urge me on, as I did you. I will certainly miss dancing with you ore mi.
"Moj, I always look forward to your bc's when I wake up in the morning, you're doing such a great job on your blog. You just need to get more people to comment, that can be a lot of fun you know." Those were your words to me, when I just started my blog, and did a story which received a lot of backlash. You were very encouraging, and was always there to listen, just when I needed someone to talk to. And yes, the name "Moj", you were one of the few people who fondly called me that name. I sure will miss the way you called my name Kemi.
There were times we didn't talk for weeks, because we were busy battling life's daily struggles. But when we spoke, we always made up for lost times. Gisting about everything from relationships, to twitter, to happenings on the Nigerian entertainment scene. Talking with you was always fun, one I will definitely miss, a great deal.
I remember the last time I saw you, when you came to my house and we were going for a friend's sisters wedding on September 21st. You kept to time as usual, but I wasted time because I had an emergency story to post before leaving the house. While my mum was upset that I didn't plan my time well, you just laughed encouragingly every time I came out to apologize for keeping you waiting...I still remember that day like yesterday, I remember your hearty, throaty laughter.
We eventually set out for the wedding at Oregun and gisted all the way in Cab. When we got to the venue, and was about to pay the cabman, I realized I had forgotten my wallet at home, where all the money I planned to spend was. As usual, you rose up to the occasion and payed for the cab, asking me not to worry. You also volunteered to lend me money, to spend at the occasion and went ahead to change it to new notes for me...particularly because my shoes hurt badly that day, and I had told you earlier. Such was your generosity Kemi, always eager to help in every way. I also bought a perfume from you that very day.
I could go on and on, I have so many fond memories of you, memories that can't be taken away from me. Memories I would always hold dear in my heart, good enough to last me a life time.
Thinking back now, there are so many things I thought we would still do together, but I guess God has greater plans for you. You are in a greater place, away from all the troubles, sorrows, and anguish of this world, and I know you can see how much your family, friends and I miss you. However, I take consolation in the fact that one day, we will meet again, and remain friends in a place where death or nothing else can separate us.
Losing you has helped to appreciate more the little things in life, those things money can't buy, like a smile, and a word of encouragement. To understand also that indeed, life is not how far, but how well.
You will always be in my heart Kemi Olusoga, and I pray God grants mum, dad and all your siblings the fortitude to bear not seeing you again....for a while.
Till we meet to Path no more, your friend Moj.
